Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition
Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) is an advanced combustion technology in internal combustion engines that seeks to combine the benefits of both traditional spark ignition (SI) and compression ignition (CI) engines. In HCCI engines, a homogeneous air-fuel mixture is compressed to the point of spontaneous ignition without the need for a spark plug or diesel injector.
This results in improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and the potential for a broader operating range. HCCI engines are a promising area of research and development for achieving cleaner and more efficient internal combustion engines in the future.
HCCI is characterized by the fact that the fuel and air are mixed before combustion starts and the mixture auto-ignites as a result of the temperature increase in the compression stroke.
