b) Variation of gas temperature :-
There is an appreciable variation in the temperature of the gases inside the engine cylinder during different processes of the cycle. Temperature inside the engine cylinder is almost the lowest at the end of suction stroke. During combustion there is a rapid rise in temperature to a peak value which again drops during the expansion.

Atmospheric pollusion from automobiles mainly occured from the fuel tank, the carburattor, the crank case and the exhaust system. One of the main method to reduce pollusion from engine is to introduce positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve) in between the crankcase and intake manifold. Other methods to reduce pollusion from different parts are

Biogas has a very slow flame velocity, only .290 m/s. at its highest. The range of flammability is 4 to 14% which can give good combustion efficiency.
Biogas has very high octane number approximately 130. By comparison, gasoline is 90 to 94 & alcohol 105 at best. This means that a higher compression ratio engine can be used with biogas than petrol. Hence, cylinder head of the engine is faced so that clearance volume will be reduced & compression ratio can sufficiently increase. This is because by the time the valve becomes fully open, the piston would have travelled considerably down the bore, and since the valve would have to be fully closed before BDC, the actual time the valve would be fully open would be minimal.Additionally, the inertia of the incoming mixture plays a big role.
